Graduate Nurse Program

Since March 2016, HarbisonCare has offered a unique 12-month graduate nurse program for registered nurses in the Southern Highlands. The program has proven to be a significant innovation in providing care for members of our community and in 2017 was awarded an Australian Aged Care Quality Agency Better Practice Commendation Award. As a regional, community-based organisation, HarbisonCare realised the importance of attracting and retaining competent and confident staff, with strong focus on creating local career opportunities and pathways.

The Graduate Nurse Program increased the competence and confidence of graduates to provide the expected level of care to our aged care residents without resorting to hospital admission and to have residents requiring hospital assessment and treatment return to the comfort of their regular environment as soon as possible. Graduates are introduced to a variety of work settings including Residential Aged Care, Dementia Care and Community Care. In conjunction with the Bowral District Hospital, the Wingecarribee Community Health Service and the Southern Highlands Private Hospital — HarbisonCare graduates are introduced to ED, HDU, Theatre, Pre- and Post-Op, General Ward, Palliative Care, Aged Care and Community Care.
